A few years ago, I did a little stock-take of my life.
I wrote down a list of all the events I could think of that had been significant in my life – all the things that had changed who I am – all the events that had made me me!
Looking at this list in front of me, a trend stood out – something in common with all of them.
Not a single one occured before 11:30am.
I no longer can see any reason to be awake before then.

I checked my diary too.

Dear Diary,
Read Joel on Software. Those crazy hungarians! Surely it’s better to name variables using the line number they’re created on? Wow, cool idea. Changed my life.

Dear Diary,
Read OddThinking. Changed my life. I wonder if this means it’s a cult? Changed my life back.

Dear Diary,
Read SMH comics. Changed my life.
Hmm… nothing I do after 11:30am changes my life.

Well, it’s clear to me, Chris.
I no longer can see any reason for you to be awake after 11:30am.

I suspect there is no pattern to my life-changing moments. Does this mean I have to constantly be awake and alert?

Bad news, Roz.
You may have already slept through many of your life-changing moments.
Have you ever woken up and felt like a new woman?
[Several obvious punch-lines omitted.]
That was because you were asleep when the life-changing moment occurred.
