Any budding herpetologists out there? I have very little knowledge of the local (Sydney, Australia) species of reptiles, but I am trying to recognise a lizard that visited my garden today. It just sat there for a bit, until it saw something bug-like, grabbed it and crushed it like a … err… bug. Then it moved on.
It was a large lizard, around 50 cm long (at least half was the tail).
It had a light green head and body, with intense blue markings (down the sides? underbelly?). Its tail was black (quite distinctly different colour to the body). It was fairly brightly coloured, but was “plain” – i.e. it wasn’t “painted” and didn’t have elaborate camouflage patterns.
It looked like a dragon lizard to my untrained eye, but I could not see any beard, frills or spikes from where I stood.
The closest I can find online is the Nobbi Dragon. It is the right shape, but not the right colouring.
Do Nobbi Dragons come in green and blue? Any other ideas?

I’ve realised now that it is a Nobbi dragon, but just with a change to its CSS files. 🙂
