Crime Doesn’t Play

I’ve invented a new game. The premise of this game is fairly simple. It is based on an old family-favourite board game.

I have broken the law five times. What I did is a secret.

To take a turn, you need to break five laws yourself.

I compare your transgressions to mine. “Hmmm… You started with a stolen car, and escalated to a car-jacking. Whereas, I started with shop-lifting, then a mugging, and only then escalated to car-jacking.”

For every illegal act you commit that matches one of mine – in the same order – I give you a black peg. If you do them in the wrong order, you get a white peg.

You keep trying until you get five black pegs, or one of us is arrested.

I call this game “Criminal Mastermind”.

  1. So do you need to actually BREAK the laws, or is being accused of breaking said laws enough?

  2. Great! Another minigame you can play in GTA4!

I think the slightly less nefarious version qualifies as a family-borderline-dull board game: BoardGameGeek rates it only 5.24/10. I actually did like it, but after you know the algorithm, there’s no one who’ll want to play you…

Strangely enough, I remember playing this and the less-fun Word Mastermind. That was way too fiddly.

  3. I’m not quite sure why I make a habit of late commenting (and without even the excuse that I’ve been away from the Internet and thus didn’t have opportunity to read or comment earlier). But I felt both the original post and Richard’s response deserve props. GTA4 minigame indeed. Nicely done!
