This is the 500th post of OddThinking.
Sometimes big numbers like these are difficult to grasp, so I like to put them into perspective.
If each post was fit on one page of a book, I would have a book with 500 pages in it.
If each post was represented by a perfect cube, 1km on each side, and then stacked on top of each other, it would make a tower 500km high!
If each post was compressed down into a 10 bytes, it would take less than 5 KB to represent all of these posts and I would be using one hell of a compression algorithm.
If you hopped on a train travelling from Sydney to Perth, and started reading out every second word of every post, by the time you made it to the Nullarbor Plain, no-one would be sitting next to you.
I hope that helps you appreciate how many posts that is!
Happy 500th Post, OddThinking!

“ever second word” ? is that a typo, or is it part of your scheme to make it so that when you read every second word it makes a clever message? “You on train from to and reading ever word every by time made to Nullarbor.” Hmmm, maybe not.
Congratulations, from a fan whose first thought is that even Julian’s supposed “mistakes” must be part of a grand comic plan.
[Ed: It was a typo, sorry. Fixed.]

Congratulations! Here’s hoping you’re still as interested in telling the world what you think for another 500… Keep it up!
